Here in Da Nang, we are now emerging from our 3rd intensive lockdown (4-7 weeks of strict restrictions). Our first was in April 2020, second August 2020, and third May 2021. Each lockdown has brought a new wave of good things at Dork Dancing. Here, we’d like to share some of the exciting progress that we have made during our time dancing indoors, part 3.

First and foremost, we have a new member of the Dork Dancing Host team, his name is Jorn. We introduced Jorn a few weeks ago, when he first signed up to DJ/ Host Dork Dancing online. In his few weeks with us he is already energizing the team offering new ideas and pushing us forward in new ways. When we return to the beach this coming week or next, you can expect to see him out there with us (likely on Monday’s)!

Below, you can see numbers to get a better understanding of our indoor #dorkdancing lockdown activity.

In the background, we have also been working on a Dork Dancing documentary, something that we have been planning for some months now. We reviewed a rough cut and are now in the process of getting more shots and rearranging some ideas so we can tell this Dork Dancing story to the best of our ability. Good work takes time.

During lockdown, we secured some new video equipment, which will be helpful when we fully return to the beach. We have plans to start live-streaming our dances to share our joyous dance and mental health cause more widely.

We have also translated our Resilient Dorks Workbook from English into Vietnamese, thanks to the initiative and interest of Precious & Mily, dorks within our community. This translation will help us deliver mental health value more effectively within the local community and culture.

And something else too: Thanh, a big dork, will start hosting EVERY DAY in the mornings. With this commitment, we plan to offer #dorkdancing for mental health 14 times a week to the local community. It’s amazing how far the passion & commitment of just one person can go...with the contribution of one person, our availability may suddenly double.

Moving forward, we can’t wait to get back on the beach. ONLINE Dork Dancing is great, and it’s something we want to continue, but lockdown was hard on us. Some of our initial energy & enthusiasm dulled & dwindled over time, a kind of effect that lockdown often plays on mental health.

We dance for mental health with a full understanding that no singular technique will work as a bulletproof strategy. Humans are social creatures who psychologically rely on physical interaction and movement. Getting out of the room helps.

21 days without community transmission. 3rd lockdown, Pass. This is something to celebrate.

Dork Dancing is a grassroots mental health initiative, campaign, and community effort. We depend on charitable giving to inspire impact. We hope you may consider supporting by donating.
