Good Morning, Da Nang!
We set the intention. We set the alarms. And we woke up to try something new.
Dork Dancing at Dawn was something different: never before, after 9 months of Dork Dancing nearly everyday, had we tried dancing in the morning. With any new idea, we thought it worth giving it a try and seeing how it goes from there.
The event started bright and early at 5:30AM. Other dancers had already claimed our usual afternoon dance spot, so we moved some meters away. Still, plenty of space to share a morning dance. At first only a few dorks, starting with the Dork Dancing hosts. Slowly they trickled in
It didn’t take long for this to feel entirely normal. Everything was familiar. The people. The music. The dancing. The only difference was the time, and a slight change in location. And…we liked it! We really did. It was something fun.
Per usual, the music & good energy got us pumped up. Now, we get to enjoy that energy boost for the rest of the day. Not all of us who danced this morning are “morning people,” so we are curious to learn how this might influence our sleeping decisions moving forward.
This morning was an experiment and it seemed to work. We will continue with this idea and learn how the community responds, whether there is sufficient community interest to continue with the efforts. For now, it’s a go!
The event for next Thursday is already planned. If you share a curiosity to experience waking up early and #dorkdancing, we hope to see YOU there!
Dork Dancing is a grassroots mental health initiative, campaign, and community effort. We depend on charitable giving to inspire impact. We hope you may consider supporting by donating.
