When getting started, you will first need to find the equipment. If the group grows, we will send some $$ & more goodies to launch an official chapter!
What you need to get started:
-
Speakers
This is the most essential piece of equipment you will need. Start with whatever you can find. Tell friends & family what you want to do and why to crowdsource speakers from your neighborhood. When starting out, the volume only needs to be loud enough for a small group. If the group grows, we can supply louder speakers!
-
A Banner or Sign
People need to know what you are doing to make any sense of things. Informing people of the purpose will make a big difference in encouraging others to join. Get started with cardboard & markers, writing “Dancing for Mental Health.” If the group grows, we can supply an official & more professional Dork Dancing banner!
-
Phone for Music Source
Connecting your phone to the speakers and playing music via Spotify is the easiest way to go. If you don’t have access to Spotify Premium, try to find someone who does because we don’t want commercials interrupting things. You could also try Soundcloud or YouTube if that helps. If the group grows, we can give you access to our Premium Spotify account.
-
Camera for Photos & Videos
We want to take photos & videos of dorks dancing! This will be essential for marketing and showing evidence (social proof) to others that your events are something fun. You can always use a friend’s phone camera while your phone is playing music & people are dancing
Additional support we will send once you are official:
-
Money
Money makes the world go round; and our vision is to get the world #dorkdancing. We think some extra money might help with getting some new & improved things. We can discuss your needs & purchases to cover additional startup costs.
-
Headbands
The MENTAL headbands are a big part of our culture, community, and advocacy. Dorks love earning these things. When dorks attend 5 of your events, we will gift them with a FREE headband!
-
Business Cards
Business cards really help, especially when strangers are passing the Dork Dancing event at the park. They are often curious to learn more and giving them a card that they can take with them is something helpful.
