It’s Time to Look at Our Habits
800+ dorks have danced with us on the beaches of Da Nang for the past one year, most every day. But now, lockdown has fallen upon the city and it’s lasted over 2 months. It’s made things a bit more difficult/ challenging for many of us.
In response, a subgroup of our community has decided to take matters into their own hands, waking up early, dancing on the beach, meditating, and swimming, every morning from 5:30AM - 7:00AM.
Thanh started this Sunrise Dork Dancing thing and for weeks, it was only Thanh but later more Dorks slowly joined. Now, 7-12 people join every day. We’ve been fortunate that we have been allowed to dance, managing a small group attendance and keeping our social distancing with masks. It’s been a tremendous success, which you can learn more about here.
Observing this behavior within the community has been something inspiring to witness. What used to be an emotional experience of misery during lockdown has turned into an experience of adventure, wonder, and possibility.
The difference was Sunrise Dork Dancing. For us, it provided routine, exercise, and connection right early in the morning. It’s amazing the power of a few simple morning habits to change the emotional experience of your day. It feels good to do something good for your mental health, especially during trying times. Habit change is truly something powerful.
Moving forward, we are going to focus on exactly this — inspiring good, healthy habits that promote good mental health. Our entire community was built on a Dork Dancing practice that has anchored us and inspired us. We want to share what’s working.
We can’t get the world Dork Dancing unless we teach & inspire new habits. We hope to share this idea with many and inspire others to adopt this Dork Dancing practice because we know it can change lives. It has for us. Just one dance, just one song. One thing leads to another.
To more effectively support others in their mental wellness journey’s, Ethan (that’s me!) is testing a new concept, DORK Coaching, and developing a mental health framework to help YOU take the STEPS you need to have a BETTER day. More details on my journey of experimenting & developing this program to come.
