MENTAL Mondays Launches

2020 changed things. Without it, we wouldn’t be here; #dorkdancing for mental health got started in response to COVID19 and the global mental health crisis it inspired. Uncertainty, insecurity, and lockdowns are tough psychologically. Dancing like a dork is a simple thing that might help us cope.

Because of COIVD19, people are spending more time at home, whether to work or play. So we’re coming to meet you there, #dorkdancing is going digital and we want to invite you to join our community. We started only yesterday, with hopes to reach more people and grow our impact.

To start 2021, we are introducing MENTAL Mondays. That’s when we dance online.

8AM EST. Zoom link. Digital Dork Dancers clicked. We’re live.

Lan (Hanoi), Olga (Da Nang), Anna (Albania), Ethan (Da Nang), Daniel (Spain), and Mi (Da Nang). All of these dancers have shared dancing experiences with us in the past.

It felt really comfortable because most all of us already knew each other and understood how to dork dance. A perfect group to launch MENTAL Mondays and a warm beginning for us all.

Tested out some new features. Got feedback. Overall, successful experience. Yes, this should work.

12 hours later, and we did it again.

8PM EST. Zoom link. Digital Dork Dancers clicked. We’re live.

Ellen (New Hampshire), Ron (New Hampshire), Ethan (Da Nang), Alex (Baltimore), Lan (Hanoi). #dorkdancing for mental health was new for a couple of these dancers, Ethan’s parents.

Dork Dancing was a nice way to reunite and reconnect the family in a lighthearted, fun, and unusual way. It also connected family with friends. Again, a successful experience.

MENTAL Mondays is off to a good start. We are excited to embark on this journey, with an anticipation that it’s going to be awesome. We have a feeling that Digital #dorkdancing might do wonders in reconnecting friends and family from across the world.

The mental health crisis of COVID19 will far outlast the virus itself. Together, we hope to spread #dorkdancing to achieve a kind of psychological herd immunity.

Dork Dancing is a grassroots mental health idea, campaign, and community. Our efforts depend entirely on charitable giving to inspire impact. We hope you may consider supporting by donating.
