Goodbye Mily! We Love You
After saying goodbye to Lan in the beginning of January, Da Nang will now be saying goodbye once more, this time to Mily. We knew this day would come for months, but for some reason, it felt like it would never arrive. The day has arrived and past. It’s time to reflect some on our journey together.
Mily first joined Dork Dancing on July 12th 2020, nearly one month after Dork Dancing started. She heard about Dork Dancing from a friend, Jay, who had danced with us earlier. It took no time for Mily to join, get involved, and lead.
For Mily, she knew this community, cause, and campaign was hers. Our MENTAL Mission spoke to her; she was looking for people like us to share her passions and interests. Here, we document and describe how Mily began to lead within the community, starting Dork Meetups to provide a system of social accountability and wellness support.
Although the launch of her event was disrupted by lockdown from COVID19, she took that as opportunity. Instead, she hosted her events online, while working to write and develop a mental health resource, a workbook (download for free here), for the community.
Mily is one of those people who cares deeply for others, actively looking for ways to be helpful. She looks out for her friends in a way that is really caring and giving. She asks herself, how can I be helpful and then she does that with no hesitation. Her heart is big and her work ethic is incredible, she’s a true powerhouse. Mily has 1,001 goals and it’s only a matter of time before she accomplishes them.
As she transitions from life in Vietnam to life in the United States, she will be carrying her goals with her. It’s beyond evident that Mily has been critical to our community, but just because she is leaving Da Nang does not mean she is leaving Dork Dancing.
She has plans to develop and expand our storytelling project, Call Us MENTAL, and get more folks #dorkdancing in the United States, with interest to continue marketing Resilient Dorks Meetups, improving her workbook, and growing Mental Health Da Nang — from Louisiana. In it, to win it, Mily is a team player, incredibly quick to help a friend or stranger.
After her last day Dork Dancing in Da Nang, she shared a message in our group chat: “this community helped me find what I’ve been looking for for a long time and I’m happy I get to expand on it even though I’m leaving. I’ll be joining the digital dork dancing while abroad.”
Yes, Mily will continue to dork dance for mental health. This idea, practice, and community isn’t dependent on location. This good stuff lasts a lifetime. See you online Mily, we love you!
