I was liberated from self-doubt and anxiety

Nervous. Anxious. Reserved.

These words described the way I was feeling before my first Digital Dork Dancing Session. In hindsight, I had no reason to feel this way. I was joined by my good friend Ethan, along with his entire family who I've met in person numerous times. Nonetheless, it was a strange feeling knowing that I would be dancing in front of them for the first time.

However, once I turned on my camera on Zoom, I knew there was no going back - this was really happening.

After greeting Ethan and all of the other guests including his family and his girlfriend, Sierra, we warmed up with some basic dance moves. At this point, I felt pretty awkward as I wasn't sure if I was doing the moves correctly however, Ethan emphasized at the very beginning of the session that it didn't matter how you looked dancing, as the whole point of Dork Dancing is to dance without caring how you look. Because of this, I would eventually open up and start dancing more freely and this is where the magic of Dork Dancing hit me.

By the time we got to the middle of the session, I felt free from my negative thoughts and self-judgment and this was facilitated by the fact that everybody else in the session wasn't judging me so I became even more relaxed. Towards the end, I was sweaty, but most importantly, I was the most relaxed I had been that day behind only waking up in the morning.

Dork Dancing wasn't just a fun experience, it was also a liberating experience. I was liberated from self-doubt and anxiety. For this reason, I can confidently say that Dork Dancing is the best "drug" out there to treat anxiousness and self-doubt. I will definitely join more sessions going forward, and I highly encourage others to take the leap of faith and become a dork! - Saif Sheikh
