Level Up: Speaker Edition
Dork Dancing began in Da Nang. We started small. More people came. So we got larger speakers. Then we outgrew that. Now we are leveling up, again. Here’s some numbers, paired with our speakers, to capture the increasing momentum.
More people requires larger speakers, which in turn makes it easier for us to dance & continue to grow. The sound waves are stronger. More people hear us and see us. And then, more people want to join. Dancing with joy has a kind of snowball effect: it’s naturally contagious.
With louder music and more people dancing, getting carried away becomes hard to resist. There’s more positive vibrations. The bigger the group, the more excited energy we have to dance with.
Sometimes we feel this exciting high and dance helps release excess energy. And sometimes we feel low and dance helps lift us up. High or low, #dorkdancing for mental health seems to work. Its power is only compounded the larger our group gets.
That's the magic of #dorkdancing for mental health: it makes us feel better AND it gets easier. The idea, we have discovered, works on its own. All you need to do is give yourself permission to let loose some & try it.
Whether sad, angry, low, or high, dork dancing has serious potential to help. Ideas that work well tend to spread, and that’s exactly what’s happening locally, within the community of Da Nang.
But Dork Dancing is beginning to spread elsewhere too, to cities like Denver, Chiang Mai, and Ho Chi Minh City. Spending money on speakers has been THE best purchase for us, ever, so we are excited to share we have a $100 speakers (or materials) budget for organizers leading the mental health movement in each city.
The intention here is to invest in what works. Good speakers work. Over the course of 100 days, these three speakers are responsible for delivering nearly 1,000 dance sessions amongst over 200 dork dancers in Da Nang.
We are so excited for our new speakers, and what the story behind them is telling. The more people that show, the greater the need for louder music. The larger the speaker we buy, the more people that show, and repeat. This gets both easier & better. We love it. We can’t help but share: we are leveling up.
